Matthew Mack Fully certified "FOUNDATION TRAINING" INSTRUCTORMatthews' background in sports started at an early age when he fell in love with cycling and spent most of his youth on a bicycle, training and competing in road and track racing in the UK. To date he has enjoyed a variety of activities and sports ranging from skating, skateboarding, rollerblading, road biking, mountain biking, cyclocross, snowboarding, martial arts, paddle boarding, yoga, ballroom/latin american dancing to name just a few.
Matthews' road to becoming a certified "Foundation Training" trainer started in 2008. One particularly stressful afternoon with a chance meeting with a visiting Chiropractor. This set the course for Matthew and his family that ultimately changed their diet and lifestyle with Matthew dropping over 50lbs of gained weight since moving to America from the UK and also led his wife becoming a certified holistic health coach. The ride was not all smooth sailing and there were many train wrecks along the way. With a highly active life style came the accompanied wear and tear on the body and subsequent injuries common to athletes and active individuals. Bike racing in his youth took its toll on his knees and learning to snowboard in his 30's resulted in shoulder and knee injuries. In 2005 he recovered from a disc herniation. A martial arts training injury resulted in knee surgery. He fractured his pelvis snowboarding and suffered an inguinal hernia that came as a complete surprise. The day before testing for his 2nd degree brown in martial arts he slipped in a charity cricket match and torn his PCL requiring a full leg brace for 2 months. The leg brace and resulting poor posture resulted in a second herniated disc in January 2012. This time recovery was not smooth. At a difficult and painful time when more injections or surgery were his only options he was introduced to Foundation Training. He incorporated the training into his recovery program and was able to leave medical care 6 months later. The Foundation Training helped him control the flare ups and allowed him to focus on personal Yoga instruction. With Yoga becoming his dominant exercise he found certain moves/positions caused flare ups and he became frustrated by the surprises. The one thing he was sure of was that the Foundation Training moves helped. When Matthew learnt of the instructor training he took the opportunity to attend to learn more for himself. Matthew was surprised at the difference between personal coaching and what he had taught himself from the book. The knowledge was invaluable and Matthew used the techniques to stay strong and manage flare ups allowing him to return to a level of activity he had not thought possible. It allowed an understanding of the yoga moves that worked for his condition and what moves to avoid. It allowed him to strengthen his paddle boarding technique and avoid repeated injury. It allowed Matthew to return to competitive cycling after 20+ years and to provide him with the tools to manage his condition allowing him to live his life on his terms. Matthew has always had a passion for teaching and when it was suggested he teach others "Foundation Training" the decision was easy. Since becoming an Instructor, Matthew has taught both group classes and provided personal coaching to clients of varying ability. Matthew has found that he can provide greater value to clients in personally tailored coaching sessions where movement, technique and form can be closely managed and progressed. He has subsequently focused his service on personal coaching with group classes offered on a custom basis upon request. In 2013 - 2014 Matthews' performance on the Bike went from strength to strength when in August 2014 a week before his first scheduled race Matthew had major mountain biking accident that almost cost him his life. He broke his neck, back and first rib, separated his shoulder, punctured his lung and suffered a concussion. The accident hit the reset button and Matthew attributes his life and the fact that he was not paralyzed in part to his fitness and to the strength in his back and neck built up through Foundation Training. Given the nature of the injury Matthews recovery has been remarkably quick and Foundation Training was a pivotal tool for his recovery. You can read more about the accident and his recovery journey in his personal blog. Matthew believes in the benefits of Foundation Training gained through his personal experiences and training and is excited to share it with you regardless of your goals or ambitions. "My goal is simple, to help others through my knowledge and experience to become aware of how they can empower themselves to think and move as we are intended too and to exceed in whatever their chosen sport or activity is.
I am now thankful for the experiences life has provided me as they have made me understand that we are responsible for owning our health and doing everything we can to give ourselves the best quality of life possible. No amount of career or money can fix what we do not take the time ourselves to fix. " Check out Matthews' personal blog to keep up to date with his adventures:- http://www.maxlifeout.com/ |
